The fishing was steady through out sarasota and tampa bay, even with the cooling temperatures. During our inshore trips we focused mainly on dock fishing. Dock fishing in the winter time is a staple here on Anna Maria Island, the heat that the docks and seawalla hold just seem to attract many species of fish from sheepshead, black drum, Redfish, etc. We also hit the deep potholes on the flat for a solid trout bite.
The nearshore bite is epic this time of year if the weather allows. On calm days we have been venturing out to the many natural and artifical reefs off the coast of Anna Maria Island that we have at our disposal, targeting a variety of snapper, grouper, Kingfish and many other species. My favorite fish is the Hogfish and probably one of the best eating fish that the Gulf of Mexico offers. The Hogfish bite will be over shortly so don’t miss out!
