...

Well we didn’t really finish the year off how I expected. Tough conditions all day with a 15-20 kt wind out of the south east. My first trip we spent about an hour braving the 3-4 ft seas to catch the elusive Permit but we stuck out. We headed back inland to get out of the weather were we bounced around Anna Maria Island fishing a few docks. My group managed to catch a few keeper Sheephead and 1 keeper flounder.

My afternoon crew really struggled to make anything happen. Fished a few docks were we didn’t even have a bite, so we switched gears to target spotted Sea Trout. We drifted a few flats that I knew there should be some fish but once again they just seemed to not want to bite. Finally with about 45 minutes left in the day we stopped on a grass flat on the north side of Anna Maria island to get out of the wind, we were able to catch about 15 small Spotted Sea Trout. I was honestly glad that we didn’t get skunked because that is how tough my day had been.

Happy New Year and tight lines, Capt. Wes Wildman
