Another beautiful day on Anna Maria Island and a great day of fishing. I had the pleasure of fishing with Joel, his son Josh and grandpa Don.

These fellas wanted to catch a Tarpon today so that is what we set out to do. We arrived to our first spot, set up and our first two baits out got smashed. Unfortunately we lost them to structure after we flew them a couple times, but was still a awesome time watching the big silver kings fly! We struggled for more bites as the area became very crowded with more fisherman, so we decided to move on to find other fish.

As we approached our second spot we noticed the tide starting to slow down and really did not see much activity. I asked my crew if they had ever caught a Permit and this really sparked a fire in them. As we decided to switch gears and started searching for the elusive Permit I tied a couple new rigs on and got set up perfect. At first it was a little slow as the tide was just starting to roll out, but as soon as the water started moving it was like someone flipped a light switch. Every crab got crushed and ended up being beautiful fish from 5-10 lbs.

Josh’s Permit
Joel’s big Permit

The fishing is stellar around Anna Maria Island right now, alot of different things to target. From Snook and Redfish on the flats, to Tarpon and Permit on the beaches. We are also starting to see a influx of larger sharks starting to enter the bay which make for a great crowd pleaser. If you are entertaining the idea of a fishing Charter now is a great time to mark some fish off the hit list. Tight lines, Capt. Wes Wildman
