Well the weather the last couple days has not been great here on Anna Maria Island, with thunderstorms rolling through for a good portions of the morning. That being said the fishing has been spectacular when mother nature allows us to get out. We had a great trip Saturday with Doug and his boys from California.

We started our morning off by heading out towards Egmont key to fish some scattered rock piles for Mangrove snapper, which have been showing up in good numbers through out Tampa Bay. We caught enough for a nice dinner for my crew and moved on with our morning. We made our run back to the backwaters of Anna Maria island to try our luck at the inshore fishery which consists of Snook, Trout, and Redfish. The Snook bite was great on the high water. We managed about 20 or so Snook with a hand full of Spotted Sea Trout mixed in before it was time to head in.

As the water temperatures heat the inshore bite has definitely slowed a bit, the Snook seem to be eating only when the tides are really moving so I would recommend when it’s a slower tide to hit the deeper water flats targeting Trout and Mackerel. The bait hatch has started and it’s becoming harder to find that spring time size bait, we all know what that means! It’s time to break out those 1/4 inch nets! It’s not a bad thing though, because when the hatch happens it brings in the Tasty Mangrove Snapper.

The fishing is going to stay consistent through out the summer, the only thing I would reccomend is booking early to make sure you get your spot on a Morning trip to beat the Florida heat. Tight lines Capt. Wes Wildman
