Wheeew, the weather has been hot here around Anna Maria Island, and the fishing has followed suite. Even know though it’s been extremely hot this year we have been very lucky with our water quality situation. No signs of redtide anywhere through out Sarastoa and Tampa bay. The beaches are are still beautiful and the water is still crystal clear , what a relief considering our past few summers have been kind of rough with algae growth, discharges and other unwanted spills.

Now back to the fishing! Like I was saying it has been red hot. The lower Tampa bay has so much to offer right now it’s incredible. Our clients have been experiencing superb fishing, an awesome triple tail bite has been taken place even though the majority of them are undersize it is great to see them through out the bay in the summer time. Usually we will get a huge wave of larger triple tailed once the waters start to cool down and the commercial stone crabbers set their pots though out the bay and along the beaches of Anna Maria and Long boat key.

The Mangrove Snapper bite has been incredible this year, some of the largest Bay snapper I have seen in years. They are averaging 14 inches and we have even seen some come over the rails around the 20 inch range. Along with the Snapper bite we have been getting a few nice Gag Grouper here and there. We have also started to see the Spansih Mackerel starting to show up in good numbers, it was a slow start this summer for them but they are finally starting to flood the waters of Anna Maria island.

4 man limit of healthy Mangrove snapper and few Speckled Sea Trout for a local crew.

The backwater bite has been pretty good as well considering the high water temperatures. Plenty of Snook still around the Mangrove islands, and we are starting to see some Slot size and larger fish showing back up shallow. The Redfish bite is starting to heat up as well, big schools of the breeder fish are starting to show and can make for a great bite. We are also catching some slot fish around the backwaters of Anna Maria and it should only get better as fall approaches.

Another nice Redfish!

The tourism is starting to slow around Anna Maria Island and Long boat key with the school year starting back up through out the country. So this is a great opportunity for the locals to enjoy the Island, beaches and some of the best fishing Florida has to offer. If you are looking to go out and catch some Snapper and grouper for the freezer or just do some fun fishing give us a call here at Wildman Adventures, we would love to have you out for an experience of a life time!
